The signing of the Inuvialuit Final Agreement (IFA) marked an exciting milestone for the traditional guardians of the Yukon North Slope. As part of the IFA, the Inuvialuit and the government successfully negotiated the creation of two parks on the Yukon North Slope: namely, Ivvavik National Park and Herschel Island (Qikiqtaruk) Territorial Park.

These parks represent the undeniable beauty and bounty of the Yukon North Slope. The creation of Ivvavik National Park and Herschel Island (Qikiqtaruk) Territorial Park confirmed what the Inuvialuit had always known: the traditional lands of the "real people" are special places, indeed.
